Beloved of the Lord

Overview: 2 Samuel 10-12, Luke 18:18-43

As King David’s empire grows, he continues to add lands and territories to Israel, asserting their dominance in the region. But there is a problem; David’s sin grows as well, as his heart wanders from the Lord.

As Jesus continues his journey, he reminds his disciples that the way to Jerusalem is the way to the cross.

Observation and Activation
“And she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. And the Lord loved him and sent a message by Nathan the prophet. So he called his name Jedidiah, because of the Lord.” - 2 Samuel 12:24-25

In his sin with Bathsheba, David broke many commandments by committing adultery and murdering Uriah. The Lord calls David to account for his sins, yet He redeems this tragedy with the birth of a beloved son. Solomon, David’s heir, is also called Jedidiah which means “beloved of the Lord.”

In Luke, the blind beggar recognizes Jesus as the “Son of David,” Israel’s Messiah. Through Jesus, we are now called “beloved of the Lord." What does that mean to you?
