God’s Blessing

Overview: 2 Samuel 16-18, Luke 19:28-48

King David is on the run from his son, Absalom, who has rebelled against him. Absalom rejects the advice of Ahithophel and trusts Hushai instead, a spy for David, leading to the defeat of Absalom’s army.

In Luke, Jesus begins his ministry in Jerusalem, riding a colt down the Mount of Olives, the same mount David fled from in 2 Samuel 16. Jesus weeps over Jerusalem because of the divine judgment coming for rejecting the Son of God.

Observation and Activation
“‘Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David.’” - Isaiah 55:3

Absalom rejected the advice of Ahithophel, who David asked the LORD to discredit in 2 Samuel 15:30-31. God’s favor was on David, as Ahithophel’s good counsel was rejected so David could win the battle. Although he lost his son, God continued to bless David as a fulfillment of His promise in 2 Samuel 7

What are some specific ways you see God blessing your life? He is working even if you face personal loss and trials as David did.
