No Divisions Among You

Overview: Psalms 139-141, 1 Corinthians 1

These psalms are from the final collection attributed to David (Psalms 138-145). The theme of Psalm 139 is God’s intimate and inescapable knowledge of His people. Psalm 140 looks forward to God’s display of justice for the needy. Psalm 141 invites the reader to pray for integrity and righteousness in times of trouble.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!” - Psalm 139:23-24

The first letter of Paul to the Corinthians stresses that the church must put aside its division and work together for the gospel. Paul begins by giving thanks for the church in Corinth while introducing some key themes he will develop throughout the letter. Division over Christian preachers is disrupting the genuine work of the Holy Spirit.
