The Call of Wisdom

Overview: Proverbs 4-6, 1 Corinthians 6

The father in Proverbs warns against thoughts and actions that lead to harm. He cautions that adultery is a path to spiritual, social, and financial ruin. Wisdom is worth maintaining from generation to generation, leaving a legacy of godliness and prudence. The author exhorts the reader to be wise, warning that what is often most tempting is that which leads to death.

"And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." - 1 Corinthians 6:11

Paul instructs the Corinthian church on how Christian holiness should inform our sexual morality. He rebukes them for bringing trivial property and financial disputes before unrighteous judges. He debunks the myth that sex is just another bodily appetite, and that Christians can separate their sexual and spiritual lives. Bodies of believers are one with the resurrected Christ, and so how we live is important.
