The Day of the Lord

Overview: Zephaniah 1-3, Revelation 14

Zephaniah writes about the coming “day of the Lord,” when those who follow Him will be blessed and those against Him will face judgment. All creation will face the judgment of the Lord, promising hope to those who trust Him and justice for those opposed. The day of the Lord is a common theme traced throughout Scripture, ending in the judgment before the Great White Throne in Revelation 20:11-15.

In Revelation, John records his second vision of those marked by God. Those who are sealed by the Lamb are protected, but those who worship the beast will face judgment. Angels announced the fall of Babylon, representing all nations who have opposed God throughout history.

Jesus, the Son of Man, gathers believers in a great harvest of those faithful to Him (Matthew 13:30-37). Those who do not put their faith in Jesus must face the wrath of God, symbolized in this vision as a winepress trodding grapes.
