Come, Lord Jesus!

Overview: Malachi 1-4, Revelation 22

Malachi concludes the message of the Old Testament with a warning and a promise. He warns the people of God to renew their faithfulness to their covenant with the Lord.

But he promises that a prophet like Elijah will come to prepare the way of the Lord, to “turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers,” (Malachi 4:6). The gospels identify this prophet as John the Baptist (Luke 1:17, Luke 1:76, Luke 7:27), who prepares the way for the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Revelation concludes with an epilogue promising the imminent coming of Jesus Christ. God’s words are trustworthy and true, and we can trust their transmission from the time of John to our church today. The Bible ends with a final blessing, as the Lord Jesus promises to return soon, and all the saints reply, "Come, Lord Jesus!"
