A Faith That Prays

Overview: Daniel 9-10, 1 John 5

The visions of Daniel show that God is in control of world history. After reading the prophet Jeremiah, Daniel prays to God and asks for His forgiveness of Jerusalem. He realizes that the 70 years of exile that Jeremiah prophesied are almost up, and He calls on the name of the Lord to renew His covenant with His people.

In Daniel’s next vision, a heavenly messenger explains that conflicts on earth reflect conflicts in the heavenly realm. Just as Paul writes in the book of Ephesians:

"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places." - Ephesians 6:12

John reminds his readers that the way to life is believing in the Son. He gives a final call to faith and understanding, showing that to love God is to know Him. Prayer is essential to a living faith, and a faith that prays enables us to know and love God.
