God Cares for His People
Overview: Hosea 1-3, 3 John 1
The book of Hosea is named for the prophet in the time of Hezekiah and Jeroboam. His main theme is that Israel’s unfaithfulness cannot outrun God’s redeeming love.
God tells the prophet Hosea to marry a woman who would prove unfaithful to him. Hosea’s sad marriage illustrates God’s pain over His bride Israel who has strayed from him.
John writes to a church leader named Gaius, whom John considers a spiritual son. John has great joy knowing his children are walking in the truth (3 John 4). He also warns against those who opposed God’s work.
God used different approaches to reach Hosea’s audience and Gaius’ congregation. What does this reveal about God’s heart for people? How can you show His heart to others?
