Is Jesus just interesting or life-changing?

Numbers 20 and Numbers 21

The people of Israel had received God’s laws for worship and for everyday living. They began their mission to defeat Canaanite nations and settle into their cities. But along the way, they complained about the food and water available.

The Lord told Moses to speak to the rock at Meribah (“quarreling” in Hebrew) to bring forth water, but in frustration, Moses struck the rock instead. Because of his disobedience, he and Aaron were denied the ability to lead the people into the Promised Land.

Aaron died soon after, and his son Eleazar took his place. This new generation of Israelites moved forward through the land. It will be up to them to learn from their fathers’ mistakes to inhabit their land with God’s provision.

Mark 6:1-29

After Jesus drove out the legion of demons and raised Jairus’ daughter from the dead, He went to His hometown. But their rejection of his authority and their unbelief prevented Him from doing many miracles there.

He then transferred His authority to His disciples as He sent them out in pairs to urge people to repent. In contrast to Jesus’ hometown, their message was accepted. Their every need was supplied by the people who received their message.

The account of the death of John the Baptist paints a dark picture of Jesus’ future fate. As He grows in His authority, His words and actions threaten those in power and put His life in danger.

Make It Personal
  • The Israelites became impatient with Moses and rebelled against God. How do you rebel when you are tired of waiting for Him to do something?
  • Is Jesus just an intriguing individual to you, or do you accept His message for your life?
