Pray for Those Who Persecute You

Overview: Job 18-19, Acts 7:44-60

In the second cycle of dialogue with his friends, Job laments his continued suffering. He knows that his redeemer lives, and he wishes that his belief in God’s vindication would be written as a witness.

In Acts, Stephen bears the ultimate witness as he becomes the first martyr. The Greek word for “witness” is martys, which came to mean witnessing to the point of death. Stephen shares his vision of the exalted Christ and he died praying for his persecutors.

May we follow the example of Stephen and Jesus and love our enemies, being obedient even to death.
