The Lord Fights For His People
Joshua continued to lead the people of Israel into battle. Five kings came against them at Gibeon, but the Lord gave the Israelites complete victory. The Lord acted decisively on Israel’s behalf, by causing the sun and moon to stand still until the battle was won.
The Lord led Joshua to conquer the kings of both southern and northern Canaan. Even when the Israelites were outnumbered, they were triumphant.
Joshua led the army to completely defeat thirty-one kings and take their cities and land. The message of this divine intervention was clear: "the Lord fought for Israel" (Joshua 10:14).
Jesus continued to show His authority by performing both spiritual and physical healings. At His word, demons left a man in the synagogue, and Peter’s mother-in-law was healed.
They were not the only ones to be healed; He drew demons and sickness out of every person who came to Him for healing. The demons knew who He was and tried to expose Him, but He would not allow them to.
When He tried to leave the area, the people attempted to keep Him from leaving. But He told them that He came to preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well. As a symbol of His authority, Jesus continued to preach in the synagogues.
