Your Most Important Work

Overview: 1 Chronicles 1-3, John 6:22-44

Chronicles begins with the genealogy from Adam to David as a retelling of the biblical story so far. Judah gets special attention because David, and one day Jesus, descend from this tribe of kings.

After the feeding of the 5000, Jesus points out to the crowd they are only following Him to meet their physical and material needs. He tells them, “I am the bread of life,” pointing out that He is here to meet a much more important need, their eternal life.

Observation and Activation
“Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you.” - John 6:27

The people following Jesus have seen His miraculous signs, yet are still focused on the physical needs He meets. They are missing Jesus’ divine nature and identity as the true Messiah. Jesus tells them the work they need to focus on “is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”

It’s easy to get caught up in focusing on our physical needs, routines, job, etc., without focusing on the relationship with Jesus we are offered. What can you do today to refocus your attention on your relationship with Jesus?
