This is How I Fight My Battles

Overview: 2 Kings 4-6, John 2

Through the power of the Lord, the prophet Elisha performs miracles, including resurrection and the healing of a Syrian. Because of his faithfulness, the Lord saves Elisha and Israel from the Syrian army.

John 2 covers two important events: the sign of Jesus turning water into wine and Jesus cleansing the temple. When Jesus speaks of destroying the temple, it is one of the first times He predicts His own death and resurrection.

Observation and Activation
“He said, ‘Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ Then Elisha prayed and said, ‘O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.’ So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” - 2 Kings 6:16-17

The king of Syria tried to capture Elisha by surrounding his city with an army. Elisha’s servant was afraid, and Elisha prayed that the Lord would open his eyes. He was then able to see the Lord’s angelic armies that surround Elisha for protection.

Jesus turning the water into wine was the first of the seven signs in the Gospel of John. These were designed to show the reader how Jesus is the Messiah.

Are your eyes open, or is your focus on worldly strength? Ask God to help you see His presence surrounding you.
