By Faith
Ezekiel uses parables and extended metaphors to illustrate God’s judgment on Jerusalem and Judah. The first parable compares Judah to a useless vine that is only fit for burning. The second metaphor likens Jerusalem to a faithless bride because of the depth of their depravity. Yet the final verses emphasize the Lord’s love which promises to one day atone for Judah’s sin.
Hebrews calls the reader to a faith that endures through hope in God. Faith is trusting God’s promises. Highlights of faith from the biblical story are described, beginning with some of the earliest people in Genesis. Able (Genesis 4), Enoch (Genesis 5), Noah (Genesis 6), Abraham (Genesis 12), and Sarah (Genesis 17) are all commended for their faith in God. Each story has a foundation of promises given and a vision of future fulfillment.
