True Gospel Living
Overview: Jeremiah 23-24, 1 Timothy 2
Jeremiah confronts the false prophets and the people of Judah who oppose his message. The Lord reprimands the shepherds who have led the people astray. Jeremiah compares the people to two baskets of figs, symbolizing the distinction between the righteous and the wicked.
Paul describes to Timothy some practical applications of true gospel living. He urges that prayer, petition, and thanksgiving are available to everyone because God wants everyone to know the truth. He gives instructions to the Ephesian church on appropriate behavior in corporate worship and prayer.
He prohibits women from serving in the office of overseer, correcting some specific issues that had arisen in the Ephesian church. Yet, taken in the full context of the New Testament, women were empowered to do the work of ministry more than ever before!
