Faithfulness and Gospel Endurance
Overview: Jeremiah 35-36, 2 Timothy 2
Jeremiah prophesies God’s judgment of Judah by contrasting two groups of people. The descendants of Moses’s father-in-law remained faithful to their promises to God. But the people of Judah had not been faithful to the Lord. King Jehoiakim rejects God’s word by symbolically burning Jeremiah’s scroll, but God’s word endures.
Paul gives Timothy pastoral advice in faithfulness for the sake of the gospel. He urges him to have steadfast endurance when dealing with false teachers. Paul contrasts Timothy to the false teachers, warning him to flee sinful desires and needless controversies.
God has prepared each one of us for our own ministry. We are to be faithful to that calling, wherever it might lead us.
