What’s the latest on construction at NewSpring Eastlan?

Phase two of construction is underway

Watch Video

Phase 2 of construction and renovation at the Eastlan Campus began in the summer of 2019! Current work underway this fall includes:

→ Clearing and grinding debris from demolition of Eastlan fellowship wing

→ Pouring debris-concrete mix as foundation for new building (A total of 23,820 square feet; KidSpring accounts for 15,500 square feet!)

→ Site work to accommodate a new parking layout.

→ Gutting and renovation of the main sanctuary.

→ Repositioning balcony stairs to create direct access to sanctuary and expand seating capacity to 787.

The Eastlan project will create a permanent home for the whole Greenville family, which added Eastlan Baptist Church in 2017 through adoption. Because of your faithful giving in tithes and offerings, the projected total investment of $13.5 million will be accomplished without taking on any new debt.

The Eastlan project has experienced a number of challenges involving labor market availability, tariffs, cost of materials, and permitting in Greenville County. Please join us in prayer that God will protect us from further difficulties in these areas going forward, that there will be no further delays, and that Greenville Campus will be in its new home by late 2020.

Chapel renovation marks completion of Phase 1

Our adopted Eastlan family gathered for the first time in the newly renovated Eastlan Chapel on Mother’s Day. Woohoo!

The refurbished chapel, dating from 1961, is now Eastlan’s new home for worship services and programs, and will be shared with NewSpring Greenville when the campus construction is complete. The chapel building’s shared space includes:

  • New reception area
  • Care room
  • Volunteer headquarters
  • Expanded bathrooms
  • Eastlan Sunday School classrooms
  • Multipurpose rooms
  • Meeting rooms
  • Greenville Campus offices

The story so far ...

Did you miss this big news? Here’s a quick catchup:

NewSpring adopted Eastlan in 2017, answering Eastlan’s prayer to preserve their historic presence in Greenville and NewSpring Greenville’s prayer for a permanent home. (Greenville campus has been portable at the Greenville Convention Center, just two miles down the street, since 2009.)

Our churches share a burden to reach the people of Greenville and build God’s kingdom. We even shared the same mission statement — to connect people to Jesus and each other.

Our leaders discussed all the possibilities and determined that becoming one family was God’s best for our people and our city. In 2017, Eastlan’s members voted to allow their church to be adopted into the NewSpring family and to give Eastlan’s assets and liabilities to NewSpring.

Moving forward, we’ll be known as NewSpring Eastlan (or Eastlan Campus). This name best fits our new family: It honors those who have invested in this community for decades and looks forward to our future together.

Will it feel like NewSpring?

NewSpring has always been one church in many locations. We have met in homes, schools, hotel ballrooms, YMCAs, and convention centers. While every building looks different, the environment and experience all feel like NewSpring. NewSpring Eastlan won’t be any different.

What about Eastlan?

Eastlan’s traditional Sunday services, Sunday School, and other programs will continue in the Eastlan chapel as normal, with unique teaching and worship led by a dedicated staff.

How does our future in Greer fit in?

Greenville is one of the fastest growing cities in South Carolina and the United States. As Greenville continues to grow, we know we’ll outgrow the sanctuary at Eastlan.

Our prayer is that God will make a way for us to open a campus 15 miles away in Greer on land purchased in 2013.

We believe a Greer Campus is a next step for our church, but we’re committed to developing more campuses only as God provides through tithes and giving to our yearly Overflow Offering — and without new debt.
