Few things bring greater joy than watching someone we love succeed. 

If you’re a parent, you’ve experienced this. When potty-training finally clicks, when kids master a difficult math skill or beat their personal best in a track meet, you can’t help but celebrate. 

Seeing someone reach their potential is a special feeling, but it’s not unique to parents. Group leaders feel it when group members take their next steps, and John felt it as he wrote these two letters to close friends. 

2 John and 3 John are short, personal letters that remind us how important it is to steward our influence wisely. For John, there could be “no greater joy than to hear my children are following the truth” (3 John 1:4). 
 
To know the truth, to love others well, and to see someone giving their best to build God’s kingdom — that’s what Jesus wants for us and that’s what gives us the most joy as we lead others.
