Our Mission

Build the person building the kingdom.

Ephesians 4:15-16 says, “Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way…into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.” This verse inspired the mission of NewSpring’s internship program: to equip every intern with wisdom and experience in ministry so that they can build up the body of Christ as they serve.

If you’re considering vocational ministry, we hope this internship will be an intentional season of growth that prepares you well for your calling.

Internships

What to Expect

A NewSpring internship is designed to give you an experience that’s about more than what you’re doing – it’s about who you’re becoming along the way. You’ll gain valuable ministry experience, taking responsibility for real projects in your ministry area. You’ll have a mentor who serves as an intentional shepherd, providing practical guidance and spiritual insight as you serve side by side. You’ll also read books and take part in assignments with fellow interns, giving you authentic community as you grow.

Your internship will include:

  • 20-25 hours per week doing ministry with your mentor
  • Weekly or biweekly 1:1 meetings with your mentor
  • Weekly meetings with NewSpring’s internship director and other interns
  • One, two, or three semesters of hands-on experience and mentorship
  • Resources to help you grow in your leadership skills and your walk with Jesus

Application Process

God made you and uniquely gifted you.

We know your life and your time is valuable. So, if, at any point in the process, it’s clear that the internship you’re applying for isn’t the best fit, we’ll be in touch.

Fill out an application.

At NewSpring, you’ll apply for a specific role that aligns with your calling in ministry, rather than applying for a general “intern role.” This allows us to pair you with a mentor who will intentionally shepherd you and help you grow.

Attend an interview.

If we have an available position for you, you’ll sit down with a team from NewSpring to share more about yourself, your passions and interests, and your calling in ministry.

Attend orientation.

If you’re hired as an intern, you’ll go through orientation to learn more about your role, the internship program, and how we do things here at NewSpring!

Grow and serve.

Enjoy the next semester of learning, stretching, and being equipped! This is a special season in your life, and we’re excited to walk with you in it.

Testimonials

Stories From Past Interns

“Interning at NewSpring is fun, challenging, and so rewarding.

You will learn more about who God is and what His relationship with you looks like, and you’ll be pushed to become a better leader and to step out of your comfort zone in the best way possible.”

Sam Prescott
Fuse Intern

“It’s the greatest season of growth and stretching I’ve ever experienced.

This internship is challenging, yet so life-giving. I was constantly reminded of who God is – and who I am because of Him. The combination of stretching assignments and intentional shepherding from my mentor exposed my potential for growth and sharpened what I already do well.”

Mackenzie Taylor
KidSpring Intern

“During my internship, I was stretched and challenged more than I thought I would be.

I was definitely humbled at times! I grew so much in my walk with Christ and learned so much about leading a team and leading God’s people in worship. I am not who I was at the beginning of the internship, and I’m forever grateful for that.”

Luke Pecoraro
Worship Intern

“Every assignment truly shaped my perspective into a more whole, holy, and godly life.

I’ve grown so much, and I’m so grateful that my testimony can treasure a season revolving around the NewSpring Internship. This was life changing!”

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the internship for?

NewSpring internships are designed for adults who are two-ten years post high school graduation who are considering a call to vocational ministry.

Where will my internship take place?

Internships take place onsite at NewSpring Church campuses. Your specific location depends on the role. Each internship is for a specific role at one of 13 campuses in South Carolina. Be sure to note the location when you submit your application.

Which ministry areas have internships available?

Internship opportunities and locations vary from semester to semester. The internship application will display available ministry areas and locations for that semester. Internships become available when there is a willing, intentional mentor and meaningful, kingdom-building assignments for an intern to steward.

What type of development can be expected?

You’ll get to experience practical responsibility within your area of ministry and spiritual mentorship through your mentor and other staff members at NewSpring. Our goal is to help you expand your capacity, so you’ll be stretched — but you’ll also be set up to win. We want to see you grow and thrive!

How long is a semester?

Our fall and spring semesters run for 14 weeks, and our summer semester runs for 11 weeks.

Is the internship paid?

This is an unpaid, educational internship program. However, a stipend of $300 per week will be provided to help offset any expenses you may incur as a part of the internship program.

What does a typical week look like?

Not much in ministry is typical, and your schedule will depend on the location and position you apply for. Aside from a standing weekly meeting, you can expect your participation in the internship to take about 25 hours a week, including Sundays. Your mentor will work with you to ensure the best use of your time and schedule.

Will a job be on offer after my internship?

Internships should equip you for your future, wherever that may be. The win for every intern is to experience an intentional season of growth — not secure a job at NewSpring.
