Weddings and Premarital Mentoring

Get Started

Your Big Day is a Big Deal

The Bible describes marriage as two becoming one. That is no small thing! When husbands and wives sacrifice for each other and submit to one another, marriage becomes one of the best pictures of the Gospel the world will ever see.

Getting engaged kicks off a fun season filled with planning and parties. But engagement is just that — a season.

God designed your marriage to last a lifetime. That’s why our premarital program prepares you for more than your wedding day. We’ll pair you with a mentor couple to walk through your season of engagement with you. Through Biblical teaching, impactful conversations, and a thorough assessment that gives both you and your mentors insight into your relationship, we aim to equip you with practical tools for a full, thriving marriage that lasts!

“‘...a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate.” - Mark 10:7-9, NIV

What to Expect During Premarital Mentoring

Before you walk down the aisle, you’ll meet with a premarital mentor couple for five one-on-one sessions. Mentor couples share a deep love for God and His Word and often have lots of experience in life and marriage.

Premarital mentoring is available to you regardless of where you are getting married and who is officiating your wedding. If you are requesting a NewSpring pastor to officiate, you’ll have an additional meeting with that pastor as your wedding day approaches.

Preparing well for marriage takes time, so you’ll need to submit your wedding and premarital mentoring application six months before your wedding. This gives you time to schedule all five premarital mentor sessions and reserve your officiant.

FAQs

What will we talk about during our premarital mentoring sessions?

You’ll get to know your mentor couple, and then dive into God’s design and purpose for marriage, including marital roles and responsibilities, communication skills, conflict resolution, sex, how to plan for your future marriage, setting goals for your family, and managing money. You’ll also fill out a robust assessment from Save Your Marriage Before It Starts (SYMBIS). This will be insightful for you, as well as guide your mentor couple to share helpful wisdom about your relationship.

What are the requirements for a NewSpring pastor to officiate my wedding?

Marriage is a covenant couples make before God and others. That’s why we require the following before marrying a couple:

  • Both the bride and groom need to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior (2 Corinthians 6:14-18).
  • Couples must complete the premarital program (five sessions with a NewSpring mentor couple, as well as one session with the NewSpring pastor who will be officiating).
How much does it cost?

The premarital program is $50. This cost includes the fee for the SYMBIS Assessment and helps us pay for training mentor couples to walk you through this season well. If you are unable to pay the $50 premarital mentoring cost, reach out to us — scholarships are available.

If you’d like a NewSpring pastor to officiate your wedding, there is a minimum cost of $250, and you’ll need to cover any travel expenses for the pastor.

WHAT IS THE SYMBIS Assessment?

You can build your marriage on more than a hope and a prayer. The SYMBIS (Save Your Marriage Before It Starts) assessment provides a personalized road map to making your marriage everything it was meant to be.

After applying for premarital mentoring, you’ll each spend about 30 minutes taking this assessment. The program will then generate a thorough report, which your mentor couple is trained to unpack and walk you through.

Can I get married at the church?

Please submit a facilities request form to ask about using our facilities. This form can be found here.

Can I book a NewSpring musician?

You can request a NewSpring musician on your wedding application. If a musician is available for your wedding date, a sound system and a qualified audio engineer must be provided for the rehearsal and wedding. (A member of NewSpring’s audio team may be provided for a fee, if available.)

May we still apply for NewSpring premarital mentoring if another pastor is officiating our wedding?

Of course! Even if you already have a pastor lined up, we would love for you to join us for premarital mentoring. We’re honored to walk with you through this season of engagement!
