Session 1
What does God want?
From 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting Guide
Call to Prayer
It can be hard to know how to hear God’s voice. What does He sound like? What does He want? Praise God that He trains us to hear His voice and know His heart through His Word.
Micah 6 tells us what actually pleases God. It’s not our religious routine, our outrageous offerings, or even our extreme self-denial. Focus today on Micah 6:8.
As you read and pray, may God clarify what He specifically wants you to do. May He purify your heart to love what He loves. And may the tangible presence of the Holy Spirit walk with you wherever you go.
Beloved brothers and sisters, may our Father find pleasure in telling you what is wholly and divinely “good.”
Today’s Scripture
Micah 6:6-8
Ways to Pray
- Humble yourself. Spend some time in quiet. Close your eyes and breathe deeply. Ask God to slow your mind, calm your heart, and focus your thoughts and affection on Him and Him alone.
- As you do, ask God to purify your intentions. Confess to Him any sinful motivations that the Holy Spirit reveals to you.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to show how you can “do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly” with Him.
