Session 3

You have a role in the church

From Numbers: A 5-Week Devotional

Numbers 3

Have you ever felt insecure in your role at work or on a project? Maybe you didn’t know where to start because your role was never defined. Or maybe everyone else seemed to know what they were doing while you were afraid to ask for direction.

Sometimes we don’t know what our place is, what role to take, or where to start. But at church, it doesn’t have to be that way.

1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” If you have been saved by Jesus, you can be confident and secure you have a role in the church. What an honor!

This concept proves true Numbers 3. Each Levite clan had a role to play in taking care of the Tent of Meeting. The Gershonites took care of the tabernacle, the altar, the tent, and its coverings. The Merarites were to take care of the equipment inside the tent and surrounding the courtyard. Moses, along with Aaron and his sons, took care of the sanctuary. Everyone had a part to play in building and protecting the Church.

The same is true today. All believers are part of a royal priesthood, and we all have a role to play in the church. So what role will you take?

Reflect:

  • Think about your role in the body of Christ. What gifts do you have that can be used to serve the church?
  • Are you ready to put your gifts to work for the church? Learn more about serving at NewSpring.
