Never run out of nice things to say
From Song of Solomon: A-17 Day Devotional
How would you complete this sentence: “God loves me so much …”?
Maybe we would acknowledge His immeasurable grace and mercy, or the way He brought us through a difficult situation. Maybe we would express gratitude for the way He provides. While our answers might vary, one thing is for sure: We wouldn’t run out of things to say because evidence of God’s love is endless.
The Bible instructs us to follow God’s example, loving others the way He loves us (Ephesians 5:2). If God’s love for us is endless, our love for our spouses should be endless as well.
In Song of Solomon 4, Solomon shares a long list of the things he loves about his wife. The two have a deep appreciation and overwhelming affection for one another. She refreshes him like a stream of flowing water, and he praises her for her beauty, her kindness, and the way she loves him (Song of Solomon 4:15).
So how can we experience endless love and refresh one another the way Solomon and his wife did? Endless love takes endless effort.
A great place to start is by reading God's Word and doing what it says. Psalm 1:3 compares a person who meditates on the Bible day and night to “a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.” As we learn to think like God thinks, we’re better able to love as Jesus loved.
