God is Faithful

Overview: 2 Samuel 7-9, Luke 18:1-17

In 2 Samuel 7, the Lord promises David that one of his descendants will rule forever. David keeps the vow he made to Jonathan and Saul that he would not destroy their descendants (1 Samuel 20:14-17).

In Luke 18, Jesus uses stories to teach his disciples to pray persistently and with humility. He reminds them to approach God with childlike faith and trust.

Observation and Activation
"And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.” - 2 Samuel 7:16

The Lord’s promise to carry on David’s line forever was ultimately fulfilled in Jesus. David’s son Solomon would build a temple for the Lord in 1 Kings 6. But it was Jesus, who was born into David’s line, whose kingdom would last into eternity.

God is faithful and keeps His promises, even if they take generations to be realized. Is there a promise you’re still waiting to see fulfilled? How has God shown His faithfulness to you?
