Rebellion and Redemption
Overview: 2 Samuel 13-15, Luke 19:1-27
David begins to face the consequences of the evil that arises from his own house. Absalom, his son, rebels against David after murdering his brother Amnon and declaring himself king.
Jesus dines with Zaccheus, a tax collector, to show the kingdom of God bringing salvation to the outcasts. In the parable of the ten minas, Jesus emphasizes using the gifts God has given you until Christ returns.
Observation and Activation
2 Samuel depicts David’s sons as immoral and deceitful, fulfilling Nathan’s prophecies in 2 Samuel 12:11. In Luke, Jesus enters Jericho and brings salvation to the house of Zacchaeus, showing him as a true son of Abraham because he repents. The crowds grumbled, showing their disapproval of the grace shown by Jesus to a tax collector.
How do you respond when God shows grace to someone you consider your enemy?
