Laying a Foundation for God’s Greater Work

Overview: 1 Kings 4-6, Luke 22:1-30

Solomon organized Israel into administrative districts. He confirmed an agreement with Hiram, king of Tyre, to begin work to build God’s temple in Jerusalem in Solomon’s fourth year as king.

Jesus observed the Passover meal with His disciples one last time before He went to the cross. Passover foreshadowed the ultimate work of redemption He would accomplish by His broken body and shed blood.

Observation and Activation
“This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.” –Luke 22:20

Solomon began building the temple in Jerusalem. Moses had told the Israelites that when they entered the land, God would establish a place for them to worship Him (Deuteronomy 12:10-11).

Passover was the ultimate act of redemption in the Old Testament (Exodus 12). The death of the Passover lamb foreshadowed the death of Jesus, God’s perfect lamb. His death brought redemption not only to Israel but to all who would place their faith in Him.

How does Jesus embracing His Father’s plan challenge you to embrace God’s plan for your life?
