The Revelation of Jesus Christ

Overview: Hosea 8-10, Revelation 1

Through Hosea, God warns Israel of the coming judgment. God condemns Israel for turning to idol worship when they were given all they needed by Him. They will be overtaken by other nations and are encouraged to turn back to the Lord. Hosea uses parables of grapes, a vine, and a calf to show God’s care for Israel despite their ungratefulness to Him.

The book of Revelation gets its name because it "unveils" the unseen cosmic conflict between God and Satan. John the Apostle was exiled to the island of Patmos because of persecution against the early church. Jesus Christ speaks to the seven churches of Asia (modern western Turkey) and John records the visions and the message.

The letter begins with a prologue to prepare the reader for symbolic visions that reveal reality. Jesus, the Son of Man, appears in glory to reassure His churches that by His resurrection, He has control over death.
