The Day of the Lord

Overview: Joel 1-3, Revelation 3

Joel uses “the day of the Lord” to describe God’s judgment coming on Israel and calls them to repent because of God’s great and continual love for them. When they repent, God will provide, protect, and restore what they have lost. In “the day of the Lord,” God promises that His Spirit will be poured out on all people who turn to Him, giving them intimate communication with God (Acts 2:17-21).

In Revelation, John writes down Jesus’ encouragement and challenge to His seven churches. Although He is exalted in heaven, Jesus is spiritually present with His struggling churches. He knows their needs and calls them to persevere in times of hardship and difficulty.
