The Hope of the Future

Overview: Zechariah 4-6, Revelation 17

Zechariah receives oracles and visions from the Lord of judgment and future hope. The Lord reminds Zechariah that He is the Almighty God with nothing beyond His control. Zechariah’s prophecies give hope for the future, even though Israel’s situation looks hopeless at the moment.

In Revelation, John records a vision of the fall of Babylon, depicted as a prostitute. Babylon represents all the empires and cultures throughout history that pursued pleasure and power over the Lord. Through this vision of war and judgment, God promises the hope of a future free from evil.

Do you feel you are facing an overwhelming situation today? Take comfort in the words to Zechariah: “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts” (Zechariah 4:6). In other words, the Lord is all-powerful, so we should not depend on our strength, but trust in His ability.
