In 2 Chronicles, Joash becomes king with the help of Jehoiada, the high priest. His ascension ends the evil reign of Athaliah and restores the throne to its rightful Davidic king. But, things go awry once the high priest dies and Joash rejects godly counsel.
In John, Jesus’ life and ministry are winding down as he gives final instructions to His disciples. He cleanses His new community by removing a betrayer and commands them to love one another.
