A Life of Purpose, A Message to Share

Overview: 1 Kings 21-22, John 1:1-28

The immoral King Ahab and Queen Jezebel conspire to kill the owner of a neighboring vineyard that the king coveted. Ahab’s trickery and deception are not enough to avoid death, fulfilling the prophecies of Elijah and Micaiah.

John begins his Gospel by taking the reader back to the creation story in Genesis 1, linking Jesus to God the Father in the act of creation. He then introduces Jesus’ messenger, John the Baptist, who prepares the people for the Messiah’s arrival by calling them to repentance.

Observation and Activation
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” - John 1:14

As King and Queen of Israel, Ahab and Jezebel had a great responsibility to lead the people in reverence and worship of God. Instead, they abused their power resulting in harm to individuals as well as the nation in general.

John the Baptist’s life was one without comfort or luxury, but it was filled with purpose. While we may not always feel a purpose in our lives, as Jesus followers we will never be without a compelling message of hope to share. Do you have a clear sense of purpose connected with your life in Christ?
