Jesus the Intercessor

Overview: Ezekiel 5-6, Hebrews 7

Ezekiel performs another prophetic sign to warn of God’s impending judgment (Ezekiel 5). The people one day would recognize God’s hand, but their insight would come too late to heed Ezekiel’s warnings (Ezekiel 6:1-14).

Hebrews compares Jesus to Melchizedek, the priest who blessed Abraham (see Genesis 14:18-20). Jesus’ priesthood is superior to Melchizek’s because Jesus lives forever and intercedes for His followers. Because Jesus is our holy high priest, we can draw near to God.

"A better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God." - Hebrews 7:19

Ezekiel interceded with God’s people by warning them; Jesus intercedes for God’s people because He died for them and lives to serve them. How can we function as intercessors for our lost world?
