The Hope of Resurrection

Overview: Ezekiel 37-38, 1 Peter 3

After the fall of Jerusalem, the Lord gives Ezekiel a picture of the restoration of Israel. The vision of dry bones represents God’s power to resurrect His people. He takes what appears to be dead, and brings it back to life! He is the God of restoration and new life.

Peter urges those living as exiles to testify to the gospel through the social order. He calls those in Christian marriages to live with one another in a way that reflects Jesus. Those who imitate Christ will receive an eternal reward.

He also stresses unity in the church, encouraging love and humility. Jesus suffered, was raised from the dead, and has triumphed over all demonic powers. So even in the face of suffering, believers should look to Christ and be ready to explain the hope that we have in Him.

“But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” - 1 Peter 3:15
