Marks of the Christian Life
Jeremiah continues to make his case for judgment against Israel and Judah. They have turned against the Lord and will face consequences for their unwillingness to repent. Even in the midst of the harshest judgment, the Lord still provides a glimmer of hope that “I will not make a full end of you” (Jeremiah 5:18). But for now, the Lord hands His people over to the foreign nations whose gods Israel has served.
Paul writes his first letter to the Thessalonian church to address questions about the second coming of Jesus. Timothy, one of Paul’s coworkers in ministry, had recently returned from Thessalonica and his report is the occasion for the letter. Paul begins by offering thanksgiving to God for the Thessalonians’ faith, love, and hope, marks of the Christian life.
