Overview: Jeremiah 37-38, 2 Timothy 3
Jeremiah prophesies God’s judgment of Judah in the last days before Jerusalem’s destruction. King Zedekiah asks Jeremiah to pray for him, even though he has done evil in the sight of the Lord during his reign. When Jeremiah warns Zedekiah about the Babylonian invasion, he gets angry and arrests Jeremiah. Zedekiah is more concerned with pleasing the people of Jerusalem than with pleasing God.
In 2 Timothy, Paul warns of false teachers who aim to destroy the church. He calls Timothy to steadfast endurance in opposing these imposters by remaining faithful to the gospel. He charges Timothy to stay true to Scripture because it is God-breathed and important for training in righteousness.
As you read these passages today, think about how important it is for you to be willing to hear or read the word of God and obey it. What has the Lord been saying to you during your Scripture reading?
