The Lord is Salvation

Overview: Isaiah 1-2, 1 Corinthians 16

The book of Isaiah is named after the prophet, whose name means “Yahweh is salvation.” Isaiah’s name is a clue to his main theme. Judah and Israel received a special privilege from God, but they despised Him and rebelled. The Lord’s judgments will bring His righteous remnant to repentance.

In his introduction, Isaiah announces the Lord’s judgment on His sinful nation. They are under the judgment of God’s Word, yet have hope in His miraculous grace. Judah’s hope lies in the triumph of God’s purpose for His people, that by them the nations will learn His ways.

Paul concludes his letter to the church in Corinth with details of his future ministry. He calls them to put aside a collection for the saints, a major theme of 2 Corinthians. In his final instructions to them, he charges them to persevere, love, and submit to good leaders. The message of his letter can be summed up in 1 Corinthians 16:14:

"Let all that you do be done in love.” - 1 Corinthians 16:14
