Session 15
Prepare The Way
From Join the Chorus!
“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways.” - Luke 1:76
“Unforeseen circumstances.” Don’t you just hate those two words? An unexpected bill, unaccounted-for traffic, unscheduled surgery, or a pop quiz… they all threaten our peace. We often find ourselves unprepared in unplanned situations. But God is never surprised. He never finds himself reeling in response. He always has a plan, He’s always working His plan, and He always accomplishes His plan.
John the Baptist’s father, Zechariah, reminds us of what the prophets spoke long ago. God did not forget His plan! God’s promise of salvation and redemption would be fulfilled. The baby John was not the promised Messiah, but he would help prepare the people’s hearts to receive their King. John’s mission would be to remind Israel that God had not forgotten his plan. Throughout his life, John pointed people back to those promises and said, “Get ready! Messiah is coming!”
Just as God had a plan for his people, He has a plan for you. Nothing you experienced this year was a surprise to God. God did not make any mistakes. He is watching over his word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12). He saved and redeemed you for a reason. He has a plan for your life and is working out that plan. Let’s join the chorus of the redeemed, giving glory to our God who keeps his promises.
