Session 21
Standing Before the Throne
From Join the Chorus!
“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” - Revelation 7:9-10
Picture a throne, encircled by worshipers — and a king, high and lifted up. People of every tribe, tongue, and nation, all gather to sing one song: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.” This reality seems distant and yet, it is a reality that begins now! The kingdom of God, though not yet fully realized, exists right now wherever Jesus is worshiped as King.
This is the picture we see painted of eternity. It’s the future we look toward and the one for which our hearts long. Our future reality is one of unbroken fellowship with our Lord, unbroken relationship with our brothers and sisters, and unceasing worship of the worthy One.
The unity our world aches for now is already true for those in Christ Jesus. Those who were divided are united in Him, and former enemies become friends. Strangers become brothers, and discordant voices unite to lift a melodious song. We are one in heart and mind now, and we will be one forever around His throne.
So come, “Magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!” (Psalm 34). Until the day we stand before Him complete, let us rehearse our eternal song now. Let us lift our voices now and join the saints who came before us, singing without end, “On Christ who saves and angels praise, Jesus died my soul to save!”
Matt Boswell, Jesus Died My Soul To Save, 2010
