Session 45
Give us Barabbas!
From The Life of Jesus: 50 Days in the Book of John
Read John 18:28-40
Now, spend some time reflecting on what you read and what stood out to you.
You may have heard about Barabbas before. The beauty and tragedy of this story is the realization that we are not heroes. Like Barabbas, we are the ones that Jesus replaced on the cross. Reflect in gratitude on what Jesus did for you on the cross. Write down what you think would look different about your life if it weren’t for Him.
Where in your life do you really feel like Jesus has taken your place?
We see the people yell to crucify Jesus instead of Barabbas. The sobering part about that? If we were in that crowd at the time, we also would have been like them yelling to kill Jesus. What does it show you about Jesus’ character that in every way He died for those who put Him on the cross?
Finally, spend some time responding to Jesus in prayer. What do you want to thank Him for? What do you want to ask Him for? What do you need to confess to Him?
